Common questions

What is an N1 form?

Form N1 is the official court document used to start a county court claim in England and Wales. It sets out who you’re claiming against, how much you’re owed, and why. JustClaim completes this form for you based on your answers.

Do I need a solicitor?

No. Small claims court is designed for people to represent themselves. Solicitor costs can’t be recovered for claims under \u00a310,000, so most people do it themselves. JustClaim’s Handles the legal drafting.

How is this different from Money Claim Online (MCOL)?

MCOL is the government portal where you type in your claim details yourself. JustClaim goes further — Drafts your Particulars of Claim in proper legal language, we complete the N1 form, and we file it for you. You answer questions in plain English.

What happens after I file?

The court issues your claim and serves it on the defendant. They have 14 days to respond. If they don’t respond, you can apply for default judgment. If they dispute it, the court will schedule a hearing.

How long does the whole process take?

Filing takes about 5 minutes. The court typically issues the claim within a few working days. Most disputes settle within weeks once the defendant receives official court papers.
