Common questions
When do I pay?
You only pay when your documents are ready and you choose to proceed. You can start your claim, answer questions, and review your particulars for free.
What if I don't win?
The court fee is added to your judgment if you win — the defendant pays it. The JustClaim service fee is non-refundable regardless of outcome, as it covers the document preparation work already completed.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The price you see at checkout is the total. There are no subscriptions, monthly charges, or surprise extras.
Do I still need a solicitor?
No. JustClaim is designed for litigants in person — people representing themselves. Small claims hearings are informal and don't require legal representation. If your case is complex, we recommend consulting a solicitor.
What about hearing fees?
If your claim is defended and goes to a hearing, HMCTS charges a separate hearing fee (£71 for claims up to £300, up to £335 for claims up to £10,000). This is paid later, not at filing.
