What’s included
What will it cost me?
Drag the slider to your claim amount.
Your claim
The court or tribunal fee is paid to HMCTS and added to your judgment if you win at court; if the other side agrees to arbitration first, it pays for the tribunal instead. The Platform fee is non-refundable and capped at £99, no matter how large your claim.
Court filing fees (HMCTS)
These are government fees — the same whether you use JustClaim or file yourself.
Can’t afford the court fee? You may be eligible for Help with Fees (form EX160). Check the fee calculator to find out.
Common questions
When do I pay?
You only pay when your documents are ready and you choose to proceed. You can start your claim, answer questions, and review your particulars for free.
What if I don't win?
If your claim is issued at court and you win, the court or tribunal fee is added to your judgment — the defendant pays it. The Platform fee is non-refundable regardless of outcome, as it covers the document preparation work already completed.
Why is it a court or tribunal fee and not just a court fee?
Because it is the fee that gets your claim decided. Most claims go to court, and it becomes your court issue fee, which is added to what the defendant owes you if you win. Some claims are settled by arbitration before they reach court, and it pays for the tribunal instead.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The price you see at checkout is the total. There are no subscriptions, monthly charges, or surprise extras.
Do I still need a solicitor?
No. JustClaim is designed for litigants in person — people representing themselves. Small claims hearings are informal and don't require legal representation. If your case is complex, we recommend consulting a solicitor.
What about hearing fees?
If your claim is defended and goes to a hearing, HMCTS charges a separate hearing fee (£71 for claims up to £300, up to £335 for claims up to £10,000). This is paid later, not at filing.
